The Yamamoto Sound Craft HA-02 is a vacuum tube headphone amplifier designed with a single stage amplification, pentode connection, and a non-feedback system. It uses two Western Electric WE408A tubes as amplification elements. Despite its small output power, it includes output terminals for both headphones and speakers, delivering 300mW at 50 ohms for headphones and 240mW at 8 ohms for speakers. The amplifier employs a highly efficient output transformer using high Teflon insulating paper technology derived from the company's high-end models, ensuring superior sound quality. Input terminals use original chrome copper Teflon insulation pin jacks, and the speaker terminals are gold-plated to accommodate speaker cables up to 5mm in diameter. The headphone jack is a high-reliability Neutrik type. The chassis is made from a composite material impregnated with phenol resin under high pressure, combining electrical excellence and strength, with African ebony legs for vibration control. The power supply features a highly efficient R-core transformer and uses first soft recovery diodes for rectification, separated for plate and screen grid sides, along with film capacitors for high-quality power delivery. The HA-02 aims for the highest sound quality with meticulous attention to detail. It is hand-built and known for its transparent, water-like sound with rich, dense musical color and excellent low-frequency weight without unnatural coloration. The amplifier is suitable for efficient speakers in near-field setups and supports input from devices like iPods via a mini stereo jack interconnect included with the unit.
