The Yamaha GT-5000 turntable is a flagship Hi-Fi component that builds on Yamaha's heritage of high-quality turntables. It features a custom belt-drive mechanism powered by a 24-pole, 2-phase AC synchronous motor with crystal sine wave drive for precise speed stability and low noise. The platter is a heavy 5 kg machined aluminum outer rim with a brass inner sub-platter, designed to minimize motor cogging and exclude feedback control, resulting in an open and smooth sound. The tonearm is a static balance straight arm, 9 inches (223 mm) long, optimized for transparency and openness in sound. The turntable supports 33 1/3 and 45 rpm speeds with ±0.1% speed variation and adjustable speed control over ±1.5% in 0.1% steps. It offers both balanced XLR and unbalanced RCA analog audio outputs, maintaining a fully balanced signal path from cartridge to speaker for minimal noise and distortion. The chassis is finished in a deep piano black gloss with a multi-layer lacquer over a laminated high-density particle board plinth, mounted on custom heavy-duty feet for exceptional rigidity and vibration isolation. Dimensions are approximately 546 x 221 x 411 mm (21-1/2" x 8-3/4" x 16-1/8") and it weighs about 26.5 kg (58.4 lbs).
