About the C-70
The Yamaha C-70 is a stereo control amplifier (preamplifier) produced between 1982 and 1984 in Japan. It is designed to deliver high-quality audio performance suitable for audiophile and professional setups. The C-70 features a new Extended Rolloff Equalizer to reduce high-frequency phase deviation, a Linear Transfer circuit to minimize distortion in class-A amplification stages, and independent preamplifier stages for moving magnet (MM) and moving coil (MC) cartridges. It includes a unique Varigain volume control system, a full two-band parametric equalizer for precise tone adjustment, and an inverted output feature that allows flexible system configurations, including the use of two stereo power amplifiers for enhanced power output and natural bass reproduction. The unit has direct phono inputs for MM and MC cartridges, bypassing the input selector switch to preserve signal purity. Additional features include a subsonic filter, high filter, mono/stereo switch, record selector, muting function, and a disc-direct switch that bypasses tone controls for pure signal output. The C-70 is built with high-quality components such as gold-plated non-magnetic connectors, high-precision RIAA elements, and plastic-cased electrolytic capacitors. It weighs 7.2 kg and measures 435 x 97 x 369 mm (WxHxD).
