About the ACT 1

The Wilson Benesch A.C.T. One tonearm was the company's original hyperbolic carbon-fibre composite tonearm, featuring a curved, one-piece carbon-fibre arm tube and integrated headshell derived from their Advanced Composite Technology program. It employed a highly precise bearing assembly designed for extremely low friction and long-term stability, along with carefully controlled effective mass to suit a wide range of cartridges. The arm geometry followed a nominal effective length of about 235mm with 18mm overhang, similar to later A.C.T. derivatives. Internal wiring used high-quality silk-covered Litz wire with star-quad external cabling for low resistance and low capacitance signal transmission. The carbon-fibre structure was engineered to be very stiff and well damped, minimising resonances and sensitivity to temperature variation, which contributed to its reputation for consistent, high-resolution sound quality.
