About the ACT 0.5
The Wilson Benesch ACT 0.5 tonearm is derived from the ACT Two and shares its fundamental design features. It is constructed from solid woven carbon fibre, making it torsionally 10 times stiffer than titanium, half the mass of aluminium, and five times the specific stiffness of steel. The arm tube has a unique curved shape designed to inhibit narrow-band resonance, with internal foam-like bulkheads to minimize airborne resonance. The tonearm features a unique kinematic bearing system with high-pressure contact points that provide stiction-free operation and long-lasting performance. It includes a non-compliant counter mass for stability, azimuth adjustments, and bearing stabilization. The arm is designed to be unaffected by temperature changes and exhibits natural dynamic damping. It uses silk-covered Litz internal wiring and star quad external wiring with gold-plated RCA phono plug terminations. The ACT 0.5 supports cartridges weighing between 5g and 16g and has an effective length of 235mm with an overhang of 18mm. The total weight of the arm is approximately 340g. Adjustments for vertical tracking angle (VTA), azimuth, and anti-skating are provided, with the anti-skating mechanism using a monofilament loop and ball weight. The arm is praised for its stiffness, damping, and sonic performance, delivering deep, tight, and well-controlled low frequencies with excellent focus and detail.
