The Western Electric 618B is a highly regarded vintage step-up transformer designed primarily for moving coil (MC) cartridges. It features pure, precisely hand-wound copper coils and a transformation ratio of approximately 1:20. Its frequency response ranges from about 4 Hz to 16 kHz at -3dB, delivering a warm and smooth sound signature that is highly prized by audiophiles, especially in vintage audio setups such as those involving EMT turntables and Neumann cartridges.
