About the Shyla

The VPI Shyla is a premium dual moving-coil (MC) phono cartridge manufactured in Japan by Audio-Technica in collaboration with VPI Industries. Named after VPI owner Mat Weisfeld's daughter, it draws inspiration from Audio-Technica's flagship ART Series, combining expert engineering with VPI's musical voicing emphasizing a natural midrange, strong lows, and detailed highs. Key features include a premium magnetic core with neodymium magnet and permendur yoke, PCOCC coils and terminal pins for superior conductivity, a 0.26mm-diameter solid boron cantilever, special line contact stylus on a nude square shank, advanced internal dampening, and a machined aluminum/hard plastic hybrid body to minimize resonance and distortion. It excels in tracking demanding passages, delivering enticing presence, imaging, liveliness, dynamics, and wide responsiveness. Designed for half-inch mount with threaded holes for easy installation, it pairs ideally with VPI turntables.
