About the Player

The VPI Industries Player is a manual belt-drive turntable designed as a self-contained vinyl playback system. It combines a 9-inch gimballed/yoke-bearing tonearm, factory-fitted moving-magnet cartridge, built-in MM phono preamplifier, line-level RCA output, and a built-in headphone amplifier with front-panel level control. VPI documentation and dealer listings show specification differences between production runs: early versions were supplied with an Ortofon 2M Red cartridge and machined MDF platter, while later/current listings specify VPI’s Shirley MM cartridge and an 11.5-inch, 7 lb aluminum platter. The physical dimensions and core concept remain substantially consistent. The product appears in VPI’s current product and manual listings, so it is not classified as no longer manufactured.
