The VPI HW-19 MK III turntable represents a significant upgrade over earlier models, designed for realistic musical reproduction with improved vibration isolation and sound clarity. It features a 1-inch thick black acrylic platter with a six-pound lead ring, which closely matches the vinyl's material properties to absorb stylus vibrations effectively. The platter's inertia is four times that of the HW-19 Jr., resulting in more powerful bass, quieter backgrounds, and greater clarity. The subchassis is constructed from a non-magnetic, 10 gauge stainless steel sheet laminated to a 1/2-inch shiny black acrylic top plate, replacing the previous MDF design. This subchassis is floated on four concentrically wound springs with damping to control random motion, enhancing vibration isolation and producing a more open and airy soundstage. The tonearm board is removable for easy arm changes. The turntable uses a precision "O" ring drive and an AC synchronous motor, providing excellent speed stability and low wow and flutter. The entire assembly is heavy-duty and robust, with a 24-pound suspended subchassis and a total weight around 48 pounds. The design includes a four-point spring suspension system and a fully damped subchassis to minimize feedback and improve detail retrieval.
