About the Scout JR
The VPI Scout JR is a ready-to-use, high-end entry-level turntable that comes pre-mounted with an Ortofon 2M Red cartridge. It features a 1.25-inch thick textured vinyl-covered non-resonant MDF chassis with a 16" x 11" footprint and overall dimensions of 19" x 14" x 6". The aluminum platter rotates on an oil bath bearing fitted with a #2 Jacob’s Taper for a concentric, rigidly mounted coupling. The bearing includes a PEEK thrust disc and machined graphite-impregnated brass bushings with a Thompson Engineering 60 Rockwell case hardened shaft. The tonearm is a new 9-inch vertical yoke type with a lateral turntable-type bearing, offering an effective length of 240.7mm, overhang of 17.7mm, and an offset angle of 22.85 degrees. It has an average RMS distortion of 0.36%, VTA adjustable arm mount, and a damped stainless steel armtube with very pure copper wire twisted with a special insulating jacket. The arm is damped horizontally and free vertically to reduce resonance. The Scout JR uses a 600 RPM AC synchronous motor housed separately on rubber feet for noise isolation. It supports 33 and 45 RPM speeds via belt drive and includes adjustable arm height and azimuth. The armbase is upgradeable to a standard JMW 9 arm. This turntable is praised for its solid build, elegant design, and excellent sound quality with clean, powerful bass and dynamics.
