About the Prime

The VPI Prime turntable is designed for audiophiles seeking high performance at a competitive price. It features a curved chassis made of MDF covered with textured vinyl, reinforced underneath by an 11-gauge steel plate to control resonance and improve feedback rejection. The turntable rests on adjustable Delrin support assemblies with spikes and cupped feet for stability. The 12" machined 6061 aluminum platter weighs approximately 20 lbs and is mounted on an inverted bearing with a hardened steel shaft, a hardened chrome ball, phosphor bronze bushing, and a PEEK thrust disc, engineered for low noise, longevity, and precision. The included JMW 10 3D printed unipivot tonearm offers extensive manual calibrations including anti-skating, azimuth, and vertical tracking angle adjustments, allowing precise cartridge alignment. The motor is a 300 RPM, 24-pole AC synchronous motor housed in a heavy case to reduce vibration. The turntable achieves wow and flutter of about 0.05%, speed accuracy within 0.05%, and rumble down by 80 dB. The Prime is praised for its quiet operation, excellent isolation from vibrations, and ability to let the cartridge track the record grooves with high accuracy, resulting in detailed, dynamic, and natural sound reproduction.
