About the Avenger
The VPI Avenger turntable was originally a project started by Harry over 12 years ago but was dropped mid-production due to demand for other models. Rediscovered later, it was completed as a masterpiece turntable. The chassis consists of three layers of bonded acrylic/aluminum/acrylic with damping material between layers, locked by three stainless steel corner posts that provide isolation, tonearm mounting, and mechanical grounding (up to three tonearms can be mounted). It features a 300 RPM, 24-pole AC synchronous motor installed in a separate machined aluminum and steel assembly, capable of high torque and quiet operation. The inverted bearing uses a hardened stainless steel shaft with a 60 Rockwell chrome hardened ball spinning in a phosphor bronze bushing on a PEEK thrust disc, designed to eliminate teeter-totter effects. The 20-pound 6061 aluminum platter has an accuracy of +/- .001" over a 39" circumference, and the motor pulley is accurate to +/- .0005" from the factory. The tonearm included is the JMW 12-3D with VPI pure copper wire. Technical performance includes wow and flutter of 0.03%, speed accuracy of 0.04%, and rumble at 82 dB down. Overall dimensions are 27" x 23" x 10" with a footprint of 23" x 20" and a total weight of 68 lbs. The table supports extensive customization and upgrades, including additional tonearms and arm boards.
