About the VLR-CT

The Vandersteen VLR CT is a small, high-performance bookshelf speaker designed to preserve delicate time-domain relationships in music through time- and phase-coherent design. It uses coaxially-mounted drivers—a 6.5-inch mineral-filled polycone woofer combined with a 1-inch patented Perfect Piston™ carbon tweeter, the same technology found in Vandersteen's top-of-the-line System NINE but at a fraction of the price. This design ensures coherence and dimensional purity typical of classic Vandersteen speakers. The speaker is recommended for amplification between 30 and 100 watts into 8 ohms and features a frequency response from 64Hz to 40kHz ±3dB, sensitivity of 86 dB at 1 meter with 2.83 volts input, and an impedance of 8 ohms nominal (5 ohms minimum). It employs a first-order crossover at 3.5kHz for phase accuracy. The VLR CT is compact (8" W x 12" H x 11.5" D), weighs 22 lbs each, and is made in the USA. Its standard finish is walnut, with other wood finishes available upon request. The speaker is praised for its natural, precise transient response and ability to reproduce music with clarity and emotional engagement, suitable for bookshelf placement close to rear boundaries.
