About the Quatro

The Vandersteen Quatro is a four-way, time- and phase-correct floorstanding loudspeaker with an integrated powered subwoofer system, employing first-order (6dB/octave) crossovers throughout to maintain time and phase coherence. The subwoofer section uses dual 8" long-throw carbon-loaded cellulose-cone drivers per speaker, driven by an integrated 250W class-B linear amplifier, with an 11-band low-frequency equalizer plus level and contour controls to optimize in-room bass response. The main driver complement consists of a 1" tapered, transmission-line-loaded, ceramic-coated aluminum-alloy dome tweeter (5kHz to beyond 30kHz), a patented 4.5" transmission-line-loaded, curvilinear, mineral-filled polycone midrange (approximately 900Hz–5kHz), and a 6.5" woven-fiber cone midbass driver (approximately 100–900Hz). The powered bass system works with outboard first-order high-pass filters inserted between preamp and power amp, relieving the main amplifier of deep-bass duty. The enclosure measures 43" H x 10" W x 19" D, weighs approximately 110 lb, with 87dB sensitivity (2.83V/1m) and nominal 6–8 ohm impedance. The Quatro has been succeeded by the Quatro Wood and Quatro Wood CT models.
