About the 3A Signature

The Vandersteen Audio Model 3A Signature is a three-way, four-driver floorstanding speaker renowned for its Aligned Dynamic Design, which optimizes driver dispersion, transient accuracy, and phase coherence using FFT computer analysis to minimize diffraction and interference. It employs a 1-inch dual-chamber, transmission-line loaded, ceramic-coated alloy dome tweeter with ferrofluid cooling; a 4.5-inch reflection-free tri-woven composite cone midrange with die-cast basket and ferrofluid cooling; an 8-inch long-throw woofer with curvilinear polycone, 1.5-inch two-layer voice coil, and 40oz focused-gap magnet; and a 10-inch dual-spider active acoustic coupler with aluminum alloy cone, heavy-duty 1.5-inch 4-layer voice coil, ventilated aluminum former, and 60oz magnet structure with focused-field pole piece and copper rings. The enclosure uses 1 to 1.5-inch thick MDF for vibration resistance. First-order 6dB/octave crossovers at 80Hz, 600Hz, and 5kHz ensure minimal signal coloration. Rigorous testing matches drivers within 0.1dB. This model is discontinued, replaced by newer Vandersteen designs.
