About the Signature IIa
Introduced in 2011 as an evolution of the original Signature, the VAC Signature Mk IIa is a fully balanced, transformer-coupled Class A1 triode preamplifier with zero loop feedback and no coupling capacitors in the line stage. It provides 11 dB of gain, a -3 dB bandwidth of 5 Hz to 210 kHz, and output impedance under 150 ohms. The line stage uses two twin-triode tubes (8416/7308/6922/E88CC/6DJ8-family), with three RCA line inputs, two inputs switchable RCA/balanced, and one Cinema Bypass input; outputs are two pairs RCA and two pairs balanced XLR. An optional six-tube MM/MC phono stage uses six 12AX7 tubes with no feedback, offering 44 dB MM gain and 68 dB MC gain with RIAA equalization to +/-0.2 dB and adjustable MC loading. A separate outboard power supply connects via umbilical. Superseded by the Signature Mk IIa SE, it is no longer in VAC's current lineup.
