About the VALAB LCR Mk2
The VALAB LCR Mk2 is a discrete, Class-A FET, DC-coupled LCR RIAA equalized phono stage developed by VALAB in Taiwan. It features custom-wound EQ chokes with high nickel Permalloy cores and annealed wiring, providing incredibly low DC resistance and capacitance, and excellent EMI shielding. The Mk2 model improves bass response and microdynamics compared to earlier versions. It uses a full discrete circuit design operating at higher voltage to drive the LCR equalization, followed by a discrete Class-A output stage with carefully matched transistors. The unit offers a very linear frequency response from 20Hz to 50kHz within ±1dB, ultra-low distortion around 0.008%, and high signal-to-noise ratios (104 dB for MM cartridges and 95 dB for MC). Input capacitance is approximately 110pF, and gain is adjustable from 14 to 47k ohms input impedance. The power supply includes a 30VA 24V R-Core transformer and fully discrete 24V voltage regulation for ultra-low noise. The design emphasizes delivering detailed, dynamic, and natural sound with very low distortion and noise, making it a highly regarded affordable LCR RIAA phono stage option for serious analog audiophiles.
