About the Unico Hybrid
The Unison Research Unico Hybrid amplifier, also known as the Unico 150, is a flagship hybrid integrated amplifier designed to blend the warmth and finesse of vacuum tubes with the power and control of solid-state MOSFET output stages. It features two ECC83 and two 6H30 tubes in the input and driver stages, respectively, and an 8-hexfet Class AB output stage delivering 150 watts per channel into 8 ohms (250 watts into 4 ohms). The amplifier uses a pure Class A input stage with double triode totem pole ECC83 tubes and a driver stage with 6H30 tubes, combined with a thermostable Class AB output stage. It offers six inputs (3 unbalanced RCA, 2 balanced XLR, and 1 bypass unbalanced), line outputs for tape and subwoofer, and supports bi-wiring speaker connections. The frequency response ranges from 12 Hz to 45 kHz (-1 dB), with very low distortion (<0.005% THD at 1 kHz, 1 W). The amplifier weighs 25 kg and measures 43.5 x 18 x 44 cm. It is praised for its muscular, energetic sound with strong dynamics and fluid midrange, though some minor build issues have been noted. The Unico Hybrid is a substantial, well-built amplifier that requires adequate space and ventilation due to its size and power consumption (550 W max).
