About the Korneff 45 Mono
The Korneff 45 Mono Amps are single-ended triode (SET) tube amplifiers designed following Jeff Korneff's original schematic. They deliver 2 watts per channel in pure Class A operation with direct-heated tubes and auto biasing. The amplifier features Electra-Print and Hammond transformers, with Electra-Print output transformers replaced by Hammond due to availability. It is point-to-point wired with no printed circuit boards used, ensuring high-quality construction. The amp uses a pair of National Union 45 tubes for output, GE 6SN7 GTB tubes for input/driver stages, and a National Union 5u4G rectifier tube. Components include Angela/Jensen Aluminum Foil Paper In Oil capacitors and Takman porcelain resistors. The amp has an input impedance of 220k ohms and operates without negative feedback. It is praised for its effortless, mesmerizing sound that reproduces musical nuance and subtle inner detail with warmth and speed. Originally built in October 2012, it is suitable for sensitive speakers and requires a preamplifier for optimal performance.
