The Townshend Audio Allegri Reference "Fractal" AVC preamplifier is a microprocessor‑controlled, passive line‑stage preamplifier that uses a single‑winding autotransformer and Townshend's patented Fractal F1 wire technology for extremely transparent volume control with no active gain stages. It offers multiple RCA and XLR inputs and outputs, 129 very fine volume steps (about 0.5dB per step) over an attenuation range from 0dB to roughly –73dB, remote control, and a front‑panel display, delivering high‑resolution signal attenuation with vanishingly low distortion and noise when matched to a suitable power amplifier.
