About the HD-A2
The Toshiba HD-A2 HD DVD player offers high-definition playback of HD DVD discs with selectable 720p or 1080i output via HDMI or component video. It supports DVD-Video, DVD-R/-RW, CD, audio CD-R/-RW, and features HDMI 1.2a digital output combining video and multichannel audio with HDCP copy protection. The player includes a 32-bit SHARC Digital Signal Processor for detailed audio, supports Dolby TrueHD and DTS HD (core only) surround sound formats via HDMI, and has optical digital audio output. It features a slim cabinet design measuring 16.9375" wide x 2.5625" tall x 15.062" deep, with a quiet fan, Ethernet port for firmware updates, and a remote control. The HD-A2 also offers excellent DVD upconversion to 720p or 1080i, making standard DVDs look better on HDTVs. It lacks 5.1 analog outputs but provides stereo analog outputs and digital optical output. The player was released in 2007 and discontinued after Toshiba ended HD DVD production in 2008.
