The Tortuga Audio LDR300.V25 Buffered Preamp is a unity gain preamplifier that eliminates the typical gain stage to avoid coloration, noise, and signal clouding. It uses a 4th generation V25 preamp controller with digitally controlled analog light dependent resistors (LDRs) for smooth 100-step volume control over a 60 dB range, including features like ramped muting, channel balance adjustment, input switching, stereo and mono modes, and adjustable input impedance. The preamp combines the LDR volume controller with a low-noise JFET current amplifier output buffer, delivering a dead quiet background, exceptional transparency, and pleasing dynamics. It includes a remote control, external power supply, 3 inputs, and 2 parallel outputs with high-quality silver/rhodium plated Cardas jacks. The design philosophy is 'less is more,' focusing on an elegantly simple signal path to remain true to the source material without editorializing. The unit is controlled via an intuitive menu-driven interface with a 256 x 64 pixel white-on-black OLED display and a 7-button Apple remote. The LDR300.V25 has been discontinued as Tortuga Audio shifted focus to passive preamps and tube-based buffers.
