About the Preos-D
The Tidal Audio Preos-D is a sophisticated preamplifier combining a state-of-the-art moving coil phono stage, a unique non-oversampling NOS ladder DAC, and an ultra-resolution line stage. It evolved from the original Preos model with significant improvements in the DAC, phono, and linestage sections. The design philosophy emphasizes minimal signal interference, allowing music to flow untouched through the audio chain. Key features include the Tidal Ultra Precision Level Control (UPLC) with an optically decoupled x128 single resistor relay network, four separate low electromagnetic dispersion power supplies, and cryogenic treatment of components. The phono stage offers adjustable impedance from 10 Ohms to 1.2 kOhms selectable via an access panel, with gain settings of 67dB and 75dB, accommodating a wide range of moving coil cartridges. The unit has five single-ended RCA inputs, three outputs including tape out, line out, and a pre-out that can be balanced (XLR) or single-ended. The Preos-D operates primarily in unbalanced mode for optimal sound quality, though balanced outputs are provided. The volume control is smooth and can be adjusted via remote, though it lacks visible markings to avoid sound degradation. The Preos-D is highly regarded for its transparency, dynamic headroom, and ability to reveal recorded detail without coloration, making it a reference-level preamplifier for audiophiles.
