The Threshold Stasis SA/12e is a pure class-A monoblock power amplifier from Threshold's e-series Stasis line, designed for very demanding loudspeakers. It is rated at approximately 250-300W into 8 ohms and 500-600W peak into 8 ohms, with the ability to deliver very high current (up to around 60-70A continuous and roughly 150-200A peak, depending on source). It uses Threshold's proprietary Stasis output stage with an extremely large transistor complement (reported variously as 64 or 68 high-speed 250W/200V/20A output devices per chassis) and no global feedback loop, contributing to high linearity and stability under difficult loads. The SA/12e is DC-coupled, with no capacitors in the signal path, and employs N-channel JFETs in a cascoded input stage for high input impedance and low noise. The power supply is exceptionally robust, featuring twin ~1200VA toroidal transformers and roughly 0.25 F of filter capacitance, yielding a 0dB dynamic-headroom rating and the ability to sustain very high output at low impedances. Subjective reviews from reputable publications consistently describe its sound as smooth, liquid, and natural, with a large, well-developed soundstage and excellent control of complex speaker loads. The SA/12e was one of Threshold's flagship monoblock amplifiers in the late 1980s and early 1990s.
