About the Trajan

The Thrax Audio Trajan is a passive moving-coil (MC) cartridge step-up transformer (SUT), designed to connect a low-output MC cartridge to the 47 kΩ moving-magnet (MM) input of a phono stage. It uses two independent transformer channels built around 20u toroidal nanocrystalline soft-magnetic cores, LITZ-wire primaries, and Mu-metal shielding. Selectable 1:10 and 1:20 ratios provide 20 dB or 26 dB of voltage gain, respectively, while six reflected cartridge-loading choices support matching with a broad range of MC designs. It is a passive device and therefore has no mains power supply, active circuitry, DAC, wireless, or streaming functions.
