The Thiel Audio SS-2 SmartSub is an innovative, high-end powered subwoofer designed to deliver exceptionally deep, uniform, and low distortion bass down to 10 Hz. It features two long-throw 10-inch aluminum diaphragm drivers with heavy cast chassis and a short coil/long gap motor system, powered by a 1000-watt Class D amplifier with thermal overload protection. The SS-2 is housed in a compact acoustic suspension enclosure weighing 108 pounds and finished in Amberwood or other premium veneers. It provides up to 105 dB output at 20 Hz and 112 dB at 30 Hz, with frequency response from 12 to 300 Hz via line-level input and 17 to 300 Hz via LFE input. The subwoofer is designed for home theater use, reproducing the '.1' LFE channel, and can be integrated with the companion SmartSub Integrator or passive crossovers (PX02 or PX05) for bass management and stereo bass reproduction. The SS-2 includes features such as a SmartRoom filter to compensate for room boundary effects, unique circuitry to maintain consistent sensitivity despite voice coil temperature changes, and unfiltered LFE and line-level XLR inputs. Its robust construction and advanced engineering address common subwoofer issues like distortion, poor integration with main speakers, and room interaction problems, making it suitable for audiophile and home theater applications.
