About the DSPro Basic II
The DSPro Basic II is a digital-to-analog converter introduced by Theta Digital as a simpler, more cost-effective version of their flagship DSPre processor. It features 8x oversampling with dual 18-bit digital signal processors, handling sample rates of 44.1kHz and 48kHz. Inputs include two digital coaxial RCA jacks, and it outputs analog audio via unbalanced RCA jacks, with an additional digital S/PDIF output. The unit offers a frequency response of 20–20.5kHz with minimal deviation (+0, –0.1dB), a signal-to-noise ratio of 104dB, and total harmonic distortion (THD) at full output of less than 0.001%. The output level is 3.4V RMS minimum. The chassis measures 19" wide by 2¼" high by 14" deep and weighs approximately 17 lbs. The design emphasizes power supply improvements and isolation of critical digital sections to enhance low-level resolution and dynamic contrast. It was highly regarded in its time for sound quality and remains a notable example of 1990s DAC technology. The product is no longer manufactured or available new.
