The Thöress Phono Enhancer MKIII is a vacuum tube phono preamplifier designed for both MM and MC cartridges, featuring six phono inputs with a gain pattern of 5xMC and 1xMM (alternatively 1xMC + 5xMM on request). It provides state-of-the-art signal-to-noise performance in purely active operation mode without step-up transformers. The device uses a minimalist single-ended zero-feedback schematic with passive de-emphasis and employs four vacuum tubes (2x12J5GT + 2xPC86). Unique to this model are three 6-position rotary tone selectors that allow on-the-fly adjustment of the phono equalization curve's edge frequencies (bass roll-off, bass turnover, treble roll-off), enabling restoration of tonal imperfections and support for a wide range of historical equalization curves, including those for 78-rpm records. The output impedance is low (~300 ohms) to drive long cables and line inputs without sound quality loss. The unit is hand-built with point-to-point wiring and features a proprietary low-noise mains transformer produced in-house, customizable for various mains voltages worldwide. The chassis is made of nonmagnetic aluminum with anodized printing and powder-coated lids, measuring 434x434x154 mm and weighing about 10 kg.
