About the Phono Enhancer

The Thöress Phono Enhancer, also known as the Parametric Phono Equalizer MKIII, is a German-made, highly versatile vacuum-tube phono preamplifier for moving-coil (MC) and moving-magnet (MM) cartridges. It uses active MC amplification without step-up transformers, passive RIAA equalization, point-to-point wiring, and a zero-negative-feedback single-ended circuit. Its distinctive feature is continuously usable, on-the-fly adjustment of three phono de-emphasis turnover frequencies, allowing tonal correction for different records and historical recording characteristics. The standard configuration provides five MC inputs and one MM input; alternative input/gain configurations and additional equalization curves, including 78 rpm, NAB, and IEC options, may be available by request. The manufacturer’s documentation and current distributor listings indicate that the model remains part of the Thöress product range; it should not be considered discontinued.
