About the V-1RX

The Teac V-1RX is a stereo cassette deck featuring a direct-drive, single-capstan transport with three independent motors for the capstan, reels, and mechanism, and a three-head configuration for erase, record, and playback. It incorporates Dolby B and dbx noise reduction using dedicated IC circuitry, along with a high-headroom preamplifier to achieve an extended dynamic range and an overall signal-to-noise ratio up to 92 dB with dbx engaged. The deck is equipped with a peak meter with improved drive capacity, offering a meter reading range from -30 dB to +10 dB, illuminated by an edge-light system for clear visibility. A 4-digit LED tape counter with memory stop, manual tape type selection for normal, chrome, and metal formulations, and full-logic transport controls provide precise, user-friendly operation. The transport is noted for its stable tape travel and very low wow and flutter, specified at 0.025% WRMS, with some enthusiasts measuring less than 0.035% weighted RMS in restored units. The V-1RX was sold by TEAC in the early 1980s and is valued by cassette enthusiasts for its build quality, off-tape monitoring capability, and detailed, accurate playback; many owners perform restorations such as belt, idler, and capacitor replacement to maintain optimal performance. The deck measures 436 x 112 x 261 mm and weighs 6 kg.
