The Symposium Acoustics Svelte Platform (marketed by the manufacturer as the Svelte Shelf) is a slim, anti-resonant isolation platform designed to support high-quality audio and video components such as CD/DVD players, turntables, preamps, power amps, line conditioners, and loudspeakers. It uses a constrained-layer damped construction with two sheets of polished stainless steel of dissimilar thickness bonded to a proprietary closed-cell foam "heat-sink" core, creating a non-resonant structure that drains and dissipates mechanical energy as heat instead of reflecting it back into the component. At approximately 5/8" (about 1.5-1.6 cm) thick, it is specifically optimized for use in vertically space-constrained racks, yet offers high rigidity and very high weight capacity when properly supported. The design aims to reduce noise and distortion, preserve transients and microdynamics, improve imaging and soundstage, and enhance bass definition without adding tonal colorations, acting as an acoustically neutral mechanical ground rather than a tuning device. The Svelte Platform is offered in multiple standard sizes and can also be supplied in custom dimensions to suit different components and installations. It may be used alone on a variety of underlying surfaces (shelves, racks, speakers, etc.), and is often paired with Symposium Precision Couplers or other Symposium footers for more efficient mechanical coupling when desired, though the couplers are optional and not integral to the platform itself.
