The Sutherland Timeline combines a high-performance laser strobe with a record weight to provide precise speed measurement and stability for turntables. It flashes a 650 nm laser at exactly 33 1/3 or 45 RPM, projecting a dot that forms a stable line if the turntable speed is correct. Any deviation causes the line to drift, allowing users to adjust speed accurately. The device also accounts for stylus drag effects on speed. Its machined Delrin lower section couples to the vinyl, while the rigid aluminum upper section constrains it, improving playback by damping vinyl vibrations. It is powered by two N size alkaline batteries with over 800 hours of life. The Timeline is 3 inches in diameter, 1 3/4 inches high, and weighs approximately 9.7 ounces (275 grams). It has received accolades such as The Absolute Sound 2010 Editors Choice Award and is highly regarded for its precision and ease of use in analog playback setups.
