About the Duo

The Duo is a dual-mono, two-chassis solid-state MM/MC phono preamplifier from Sutherland Engineering, with each channel housed in its own separate enclosure to maximize isolation, minimize crosstalk, and improve channel separation and spatial imaging. Each channel uses high-quality construction, including FR-4 fiberglass circuit boards with plated-through holes, Dale/Vishay 1% metal film resistors, and Wima polypropylene capacitors in the power-supply bypass and DC servo stages, along with precision polystyrene film capacitors for equalization. Gain and loading are user-selectable via internal configuration headers, offering multiple gain settings (40, 46, 52, 58, 64 dB) and loading options (47k, 1k, 475, 200, 100 ohms), allowing compatibility with a wide range of moving magnet and moving coil cartridges. The Duo may be ordered in a version that incorporates an optional internal Linear Power Supply (LPS) board with a toroidal transformer, rectification, and extensive passive R-C filtering to further isolate the audio circuitry from AC line noise and enhance performance.
