About the Director

The Sutherland Engineering Director is a high-end solid-state stereo line-stage preamplifier from Sutherland Engineering. It provides four high-level RCA inputs, automatic input selection, remote-controlled volume and mute, and selectable input attenuation intended to accommodate sources with different output levels. The Director uses a precision stepped volume architecture with 128 total volume settings and a 78 dB control range. Available documentation identifies the unit as a legacy product; it does not appear in Sutherland Engineering's current product lineup, so it is best regarded as discontinued or no longer manufactured. Some published specifications vary slightly by source, particularly weight.
