About the True II
The Sunfire True Subwoofer MK II is a high-performance powered subwoofer designed by Bob Carver, featuring a compact 11" x 11" x 11" cube enclosure housing dual 8" drivers with a bore of 8 inches and a stroke of 2.35 inches, allowing a total air volume displacement of over 235 cubic inches. It is powered by a patented Tracking Downconverter power supply amplifier rated at 2,700 watts peak, capable of delivering tight, floor-rumbling bass down to 18 Hz with a frequency response of 18 Hz to 100 Hz (+0 to -3 dB). The subwoofer includes a variable crossover adjustable from 35 Hz to 100 Hz with a steep 36 dB/octave slope, continuously adjustable phase control from 0 to 180 degrees, and input level (volume) control. It accepts both standard and high-level inputs via optical coupling and provides a passive 70 Hz 6 dB/octave hi-pass line level output for satellite loudspeakers. The design features a push-pull dual driver configuration that cancels internal forces, reducing cabinet movement and improving stability. The subwoofer weighs approximately 48 lbs and has a black anodized and lacquer finish with a removable fabric grill. It is known for its robust build, graceful overload protection via soft clipping, and ability to produce output levels exceeding 110 dB SPL at low frequencies, making it suitable for audiophile and home theater applications. The MK II version improved driver design for better power handling and reduced cabinet movement compared to the original model. The product was originally
