About the MMT Classic
The Sumiko MMT-classic is a medium mass tonearm produced by Sumiko in Japan, manufactured by Jelco. It features an S-shaped design with a removable headshell and can be used with or without fluid damping. The tonearm is known for its precise manufacturing tolerances and is suitable for cartridges with a weight range from standard up to 8 grams, with an option for extra weight up to 14 grams. It is considered a good match for turntables like the Oracle and is favored for its solid build and bass performance. The MMT was introduced in the early 1980s and was only in production for a few years, making it a historically significant model in Sumiko's tonearm lineup. It offers adjustable parameters such as arm height, overhang, offset angle, azimuth, and anti-skate, with a maximum backswing of 64mm. The MMT is often compared to the Premier FT3 tonearm, sharing many internal components but differing in shape and headshell weight, making it more suitable for lower compliance cartridges.
