About the SG1
The Spiral Groove SG-1, particularly in its upgraded SG1.2 version, is a flagship turntable designed and manufactured by Spiral Groove in Berkeley, California. It features a belt-driven design with a low-voltage, high-torque AC synchronous motor that is electronically selectable between 33 1/3 and 45 rpm speeds. The motor is decoupled from the turntable to minimize noise interference. The platter assembly includes an inverted sapphire disc and hardened steel bearing, with a heavy, layered platter topped by graphite to reduce noise and vibration. The SG1.2 upgrade adds a heavier platter with a magnetic levitation system to reduce bearing load, improved isolation feet based on Strange Attractor technology, and a two-platform body separated by elastomers for mechanical decoupling and vibration damping. The tonearm mounting board uses a stainless steel bayonet system allowing quick removal and perfect alignment of multiple tonearms and cartridges. The turntable weighs approximately 43 kg (95 lbs) and is praised for its fast sound, low noise floor, enhanced bass impact, and imaging depth. The SG1.2 is1 owners.
