About the TC50
The Spica TC-50 is a compact, two-way loudspeaker designed for exceptional phase and time coherence, utilizing a 6.5" treated paper cone woofer and a 1" soft dome tweeter. It features a sealed enclosure with a low-frequency alignment Q of 0.78 and a crossover frequency around 2kHz. The woofer crossover is a fourth-order Bessel filter providing flat phase response, while the tweeter crossover is approximately first-order Butterworth, contributing to minimal phase shift and excellent midrange coherence. The cabinet is uniquely wedge-shaped with a steeply raked front baffle coated in wool felt to absorb unwanted reflections, enhancing imaging and soundstage. Originally finished in simulated walnut veneer, some restored versions feature a burled walnut veneer. The TC-50 offers a frequency response of approximately 60Hz to 17kHz (-3dB), sensitivity of 84dB/W/m, nominal impedance of 4 ohms (minimum 3.6 ohms at 4kHz), and power handling of 50W continuous and 100W peak. Dimensions are 15.5" H x 13" W x 11.6" D, weighing about 20 lbs each. It was produced from 1983 to 1988 and is highly regarded for its musicality, vocal clarity, and imaging capabilities at a price point originally around - per pair.
