About the S100
The Spendor S-100 is a three-way, reflex-loaded, stand-mounted loudspeaker originally released in the early 1990s. It features a 13" doped Bextrene-cone woofer, a 6" polypropylene homopolymer-cone midrange, and a 0.75" soft-dome tweeter. The crossover frequencies are set at 600Hz and 4kHz, providing a frequency response of 38Hz to 20kHz ±3dB. It has a nominal impedance of 8 ohms (minimum 5.7 ohms) and a sensitivity of 89.5dB/W/m, suitable for amplifiers rated between 15 and 150 watts. The cabinet measures 27.5" high by 14.5" wide by 16.9" deep and weighs approximately 80 lbs. The design emphasizes natural, unforced sound with a coherent midrange and a bass that provides scale and momentum, though the bass speed and contouring are somewhat limited. The speaker is known for its classic British monitor sound, with a polite and natural presentation rather than an overly lively or bright character. It was discontinued around 2004 but remains a respected reference in audiophile circles.
