About the DMA-100 Megahertz
The Spectral DMA-100 Megahertz is a pioneering Class A instrumentation amplifier introduced in 1982, notable for being the industry's first wideband, high-speed audio power amplifier with a bandwidth extending from DC to the low radio frequency range (up to megahertz). It was the first solid-state amplifier to use no capacitors in the signal path, employing full FET technology including J-FETs and power MOSFETs. The amplifier delivers a true 100 watts per channel into any load and features a direct-coupled, high-speed design that provides exceptional transient response, dynamic resolution, and speaker control. Its proprietary "Focused Array" output section design mates each matched output device to its own power supply, including individual filter capacitors, rectifiers, and transformer secondary windings, enabling rapid, pistonic signal launch and full rated power delivery with absolute load stability at 1 MHz. The DMA-100 set a benchmark for speed, clarity, and musicality that influenced all subsequent Spectral amplifiers and remains highly regarded for its accuracy and realism in audio reproduction. It is a full dual mono amplifier with balanced (XLR) and single-ended (RCA) inputs and supports multiple line voltages (100V to 240V). Although the original DMA-100 is no longer in production, its design legacy continues in later models such as the DMA-100S, which incorporates many of its advanced technologies in a more compact form.
