About the Spatial Audio X3
The Spatial Audio X3 is an open baffle floorstanding loudspeaker designed with a 3-way dipolar configuration. It features an Air Motion Transformer (ribbon) tweeter crossed over at 1,000 Hz, a 12-inch midrange driver crossed over at 90 Hz, and a 15-inch powered subwoofer capable of reaching down to 25 Hz. The speakers measure 50 inches tall, 18 inches wide, and 5 inches deep, weighing approximately 85 pounds each. They have an 8 Ohm impedance and a high sensitivity rating of 97 dB, making them easy to drive with a wide range of amplifiers, including low-powered single-ended triode (SET) amps. The bass section is active, offloading the demanding low frequencies to the powered subwoofer, which enhances amplifier choice flexibility. The crossover components are high quality, including Clarity Caps and Duelund tone wire, and the speakers use WBT binding posts. The design is both classy and contemporary, with exposed driver backs that are visually appealing. The soundstage is noted for exceptional depth and width, and the phantom center channel is rock solid. However, some listeners report listener fatigue due to hardness in the ribbon high-frequency driver.
