The Sony PS-X7 is a high-quality fully automatic direct-drive turntable manufactured by Sony between 1977 and 1978. It features a 317mm die-cast aluminum alloy platter weighing 1.6 kg, driven by a DC servo-controlled motor with a quartz lock system for precise speed stability. It supports 33 1/3 and 45 rpm speeds with wow and flutter rated at 0.025% WRMS and a signal-to-noise ratio of 73 dB. The tonearm is a static balance type made of carbon fiber with an effective length of 216.5 mm and an overhang of 16.5 mm, supporting cartridge weights from 2.5 to 14.5 g. The turntable includes automatic lead-in, return, repeat, and stop functions, electronic touch switches with LED display, optical end-of-record sensing, and anti-skating with direct reading. The chassis is made from low-resonance SMBC material for vibration damping, and the unit weighs approximately 10.6 to 10.9 kg with dimensions around 445 x 150 x 375 mm. It was originally priced around 350 USD in 1978.
