About the Power 2 SE

The Sonic Frontiers Power 2 SE is a stereo tube power amplifier produced between 1997 and 1999, rated at 110 watts per channel into 8 ohms. It features a push-pull design with an input cathode follower (6922 tubes), two differential plate-loaded voltage amplifiers (6922 tubes) in cascade, followed by a driver cathode follower (5687WB) directly coupled to the output tubes (KT88 or 6550 tubes). The amplifier is fully balanced throughout, including the output transformer, and supports balanced as well as single-ended inputs with balanced feedback. It incorporates an inner positive-feedback loop to lower output impedance, resulting in a higher damping factor and lower midband distortion. The Power 2 SE is known for its high parts and construction quality, using premium components from MIT MultiCap, Solen, Vishay, Roderstein, Cardas, and Kimber. It includes convenience features such as individual power-tube biasing, standby and mute functions to extend tube life and facilitate operation. The amplifier can be configured for 8, 4, or 2 ohm speaker loads and weighs approximately 50 kg (110 lbs). Dimensions are roughly 460 x 560 x 230 mm. It is highly regarded for its warm, detailed sound and robust build quality.
