About the Line 2
The Sonic Frontiers Line 2 is a vacuum tube line preamplifier designed with a fully balanced signal path and DC coupling from input to output. It uses three 6922 tubes per channel in a symmetrical circuit derived from the acclaimed SFL-2 preamp. The volume control is implemented with dual Crystal CS3310 chips per channel, which are analog attenuators controlled digitally, maintaining an analog audio path. The preamp includes two balanced inputs and four single-ended inputs, with outputs available on balanced XLR and single-ended RCA connectors. It also features a tape buffer using Burr-Brown OPA2604 op-amps and a headphone output with HeadRoom processing. The unit comes with a separate half-size outboard power supply and includes accessories such as a screwdriver, six 6922 tubes, and cotton gloves for tube installation. The Line 2 is noted for its neutrality and lack of coloration, providing a natural and accurate sound reproduction without added emphasis or false dynamics. It has been highly regarded and received a Stereophile Class A recommendation. The preamp was manufactured in Canada and is no longer in production.
