About the Classic Acoustical Foam
Sonex Classic Acoustical Foam is a popular acoustic treatment panel made from open-cell melamine-based Willtec foam. It features a modified anechoic wedge pattern that optimizes sound absorption and deflection, making it ideal for recording studios, broadcast studios, listening rooms, restaurants, and other environments requiring sound control. The panels reduce echo and reverberation, improve speech intelligibility, and provide excellent acoustical performance across all frequencies, especially between 500 and 1,000 Hz. They are available in natural white, grey, and charcoal Colortec finishes, with a Noise Reduction Coefficient (NRC) ranging from 0.80 to 0.95 depending on finish. The foam is mold-resistant, fire-retardant (Class 1 fire-rated per ASTM E84), and meets UL 181 section 11 for microbial growth and ASTM G21 for fungus resistance. Panels measure 24" x 48" with 2" thickness and weigh approximately 0.5 to 0.7 lbs per cubic foot. Installation is typically done using acouSTIC water-based adhesive for strong, odorless bonding. Pricing starts at for a box of panels, with adjustments possible due to tariffs and custom color options.
