About the 6.5
The Soliloquy 6.5 loudspeaker, introduced in 2002, stands 53 inches high, 10 inches wide, and 15.5 inches deep, weighing 130 pounds. It features a quasi three-way design with five drivers: three 6.5-inch poly-fiber woofers handling bass and lower midrange, a 2-inch treated paper dome midrange, and a 1-inch double-chamber silk dome tweeter. The woofers are run with staggered high-pass filters to ease the transition from line-source bass to point-source midrange, with roll-offs at 400Hz, 800Hz, and 1600Hz respectively. The tweeter crossover is at 6kHz with a 12dB/octave slope. Drivers are mounted on 3/8" thick aluminum "wave launch" plates to minimize vibrational crosstalk and thermal compression, improving dynamic range and reducing distortion. The cabinet is constructed with 1" thick MDF walls and a 1.5" thick baffle, with a rear port for bass extension. Sensitivity is rated at 92 dB, nominal impedance 8 ohms, and recommended amplifier power is 20-200 watts. The speaker has a slightly forward presentation with full-bodied sound and impressive bass performance. It was The company is no longer in business, and the drivers were proprietary, built by AAD and designed by Phil Jones.
