About the Sub 500 X2

The Snell Acoustics Sub 500 X2 is a passive subwoofer system sold as a pair of subwoofers (X2) intended for integration into high-fidelity home audio setups. It is a passive design, requiring an appropriate external power amplifier or subwoofer amplifier channel; there is no built-in active amplification. Each Sub 500 cabinet is a conventional passive subwoofer -- not an active, powered unit, and not the similarly-named Canton or Dynaudio "Sub 500" products -- designed for deep bass reinforcement as part of Snell's multi-speaker systems. Snell Acoustics ceased loudspeaker manufacturing years ago, and the Sub 500 X2 is no longer in production; examples on the market today are used/legacy units sold through secondary-market audio sellers and auction sites rather than new stock.
