About the 30

The SME Model 30 is a precision, heavy-mass, suspended turntable that was long positioned as SME's flagship and reference-standard design. It uses a CNC-machined aluminium chassis and sub-chassis with extensional damping to control vibration and resonance, and a suspended suspension system with chassis fluid damping to provide definitive resonance control for the main bearing, platter, and tonearm. Its construction weighs over 42 kg, contributing to outstanding dynamics, pitch stability, and effective management of mechanical energy. The platter is a 330 mm, 7.5 kg aluminium alloy unit driven by a custom bi-phase AC synchronous motor and highly advanced speed control unit, with an independent mains power unit that keeps the transformer physically separated from the audio circuitry. The Model 30 is supplied as an integrated package with SME's flagship Series V tonearm, featuring contrasting silver printed detail and Crystal Cable internal wiring. Connectivity is via LEMO low-power cables with RCA or XLR chassis connectors, and a gold finish option is available from the factory.
