The SME M2 series offers meticulous build quality at a reasonable cost, embodying SME's renowned engineering principles. Available in 9-inch (M2-9, M2-9R), 10-inch (M2-10), and 12-inch (M2-12, M2-12R) effective lengths, these tonearms provide pivot-to-stylus dimensions covering most turntable requirements. Key features include a lightweight stainless steel tonearm tube (straight for standard models, J-shaped for R versions), pressure die-cast magnesium or aluminum detachable headshell with azimuth adjustment via collet clamp, tungsten counterbalance weight (single-element for non-R, two-stage for R models), superb quality ball race gimbaled bearings, internal damping, fluid damped lift/lower control, anti-skate mechanism adjustable up to 5g VTF, and compatibility with optional FD-M2 fluid damper. The R models add vertical and horizontal tracking adjustments, thumbwheel height adjustment, and optimized matching for vintage SPU cartridges. Suited for cartridges from 5-12g (standard) up to 46g (plug-in heads), they deliver precise, uncolored musical performance with low tracking error and high rigidity.
