The SME Series IV is a stereo gimbal bearing tonearm, known for its robust construction and precise audio performance. It is a cut-down version of the legendary SME Series V, featuring copper wiring instead of silver and simplified adjustment mechanisms. The Series IV is crafted with a unique one-piece pressure die-cast tone-arm made from magnesium, which replaces conventional fabricated construction. It includes features like a lowering/raising control for smooth height adjustment, a dual-lock base for high rigidity, and a tungsten-alloy balance weight on a damped two-point suspension to assist in warp riding. The tonearm also includes a swiveling damped output socket to minimize vibration transmission when used in sub-chassis configurations. Reference lines on the tone-arm facilitate precise VTA (Vertical Tracking Angle) setting, and fine adjustment of the horizontal tracking angle (HTA) is also available.
